Federal Programs

Title I

Title I funding is provided under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.  Funding is allocated to schools based on students receiving free and reduced meals.  Eleven elementary schools currently receive Title I funding and provide supplemental services through School-wide Programs  to students at Cedar Ridge, Copeland, Dobson, Flat Rock, Franklin, Mountain Park, Pilot, Rockford, Shoals, Westfield, and White Plains.  To view the current Title I Plan please click Title I Plan in any area of the Surry County Schools website.

Migrant

Services for migrant students are provided from federal migrant funds.  These highly mobile students are children of families that move to Surry County with the intent of working directly in agricultural employment.  These students frequently fall behind grade level because of their mobility.  Migrant funding provides additional staff to help these students catch up and achieve at a more rapid pace.   To view the current Migrant Plan please click Migrant Plan in any area of the Surry County Schools website.

Title II

Title II funds are targeted toward the schools that have the lowest proportion of highly qualified teachers, have the largest average class size, or are identified for school improvement under Title I.  Local parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting personnel participated in the design, planning, and implementation of the Title II, Part A program. To view the current Title II Plan please click Title II Plan in any area of the Surry County Schools website.    .
